These camps are open to girls and boys ages 8 to 14 years. Our program has 5 groups of 6 students per 4-day camp, usually Monday thru Thursday. Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. When a Holiday Monday occurs, the camps will be Tuesday thru Friday.
For 2012, Vince Dwyer will lead our team of one other Professional Instructor, and 4 Assistants. The students will be put into classes of 6 according to age. The curriculum concentrates on "golf basics" and will be presented in a relaxed atmosphere. Drills, small competitions, and games will make it fun! Golf rules, etiquette, course management, and just plain proper demeanor around a golf facility, will be stressed. Also, we will teach that traditions and respect for other people and the game are essential. Even though students at different levels will be in the same class, the instructors will assist each student individually, and consequently each student should progress to a higher level.
Each class of 6 students will have instruction and practice for 3 to 3.5 hours, and play 9 holes each day. Convenient breaks and a 30-minute lunch period are also provided. Lunch is included in the fee. The 6 students of a class will be divided into 2 threesomes for the 9 holes of golf. Their instructor will play with each threesome for 2 of the 4 days, and another adult, probably an amateur, will play with the other threesome in order that group will have a good role model with which to play.
The camps begin on Monday, June 18th. The last camp will end on August 30th.
The fee per participant is $330, all taxes included. For 2012, camp fees can be paid only by cash, or cheque. Please make cheques payable to White Oaks Golf Club, and should be dated for May 1st, 2012. They will be deposited in early May.
We believe that, in order to prevent swing faults at an early age, the right equipment is necessary. Clubs with light shafts of appropriate length are essential for proper development. There will be a "club fitting" day on Saturday, May 5th between 10:00 a.m. and 3;00 p.m. If interested, please let the pro shop know. We carry good junior sets in our pro shop both for sale or rental.
Names of juniors wishing to participate can be telephoned, not E-mailed to the Pro Shop starting Monday, March 5th, 2012, at 9:00 a.m. (905-257-5409). Registration forms will be numbered in the sequence of telephone calls received. An information sheet along with the numbered application form will be E-mailed or snail-,ailed, and we ask they be completed and returned by Sunday April 1st. At that time, the juniors will be listed onto the camp week enrollment sheets in the same order of the initial phone calls. The registration form will ask for 3 (listed in priority) choices of ONE preferred week. Because the number of applicants is increasing each year, it is necessary to restrict each junior to one (week) camp only. A second week would only be available if a camp is not full 2 weeks prior to the beginning of that camp.
It is our lofty goal for the juniors to learn some life lessons from a game that can be enjoyed for a lifetime.
